Here on the Swamp, we don't believe that Spirit is seperate from us. This world is intimately intertwined with our own much like a web between the living and the After.
This complex web doesn't just link us to the Spirit world but in many ways it acts as a network. Think of Avatar, and the way the Na'vi use Eywa like a neural network, millions of pathways of information at the ready... all you need to do is access it. Or rather, learn to access it.
For some, this web is accessible by birth right. As a professional psychic-medium, I am aware of the web in more tangible ways as I am often navigating the cosmic network that links us in readings and channeling work.
But what about for those that don't necessarily consider themselves psychic? How can you access the web of Spirit guidance so you can glean the information you need to live a fulfilled and embodied life?
One way to connect with Spirit it to create ritual. And while often times we may conjure up fantastical Hollywood visions when the word "ritual" is brought into the narrative, I challenge you to simplify the offerings and think of all the small ways you already connect with Spirit.
...When you miss them and play a song they love.
...When you flip through their pictures or touch the frame when you pass.
...When you sit in the garden with a coffee and ask your loved one what they would have done and just... listen.
All of these small, sacred rituals help you connect with Spirit, and they are mostly unintentional. You don't realize that's what you're doing, when you're doing it.
You are wielding magic without even realizing you are, and now that you know you are... you can do so intentionally. And not only is that way more fun, but it's way more powerful.
You can create a ritual all on your own by using these elements (though feel free to follow your own intuition and choose what feels right! Your magic is YOU):
Create Sacred Space: Use an altar or create ritual space by marking the space you wish to call in Spirit. Spirit is everywhere, all at once. And by creating this space and calling them in, you are inviting their energy to concentrate in your physical reality. In your sacred space you may wish to include a representation of the elements (fire, earth, water, air, and spirit), pieces of your ancestors, crystals, bones, or other talismans that feel important to you.
Set an Intention: On a piece of paper, write down your intention for creating this ritual. What do you hope will come from it? How do you hope to feel after? What do you want to carry forward into your everyday life?
Activation/Invocation: This part can be as unique as you can imagine or as simple as lighting a candle. Through the reciting of a ritual invocation or affirmation or other act of activation, your ritual space is opened. In the time following, it's a beautiful time to journal or meditate with your Spirit team or ancestors. Ask them questions or let your mind wander to the memories and moments they'd like to revisit with you. Find new parts of those memories and linger there. Pull Tarot or Oracle cards or use your pendulum for further guidance.
Closing Sacred Space: When the time has come to close the connection, thank Spirit for guiding you today. Release the elements by blowing out any candles or snuffing out any incense.
